SAN JUAN RIVER & SOLENTINAME
General Information.
The San Juan river starts at the southwest area of the Lake Nicaragua (San Carlos town), and flows for 119 miles (199 km) to the Caribbean Sea. It is the natural border with Costa Rica. The whole area is a tropical rain forest. The bio diversity is spectacular; you can witness the lush and exuberant vegetation as well as experience mother nature in all its splendor. The river is a natural habitat of different bird species like: Chestnut Toucans, Harpy eagles, Boat billed herons, Great Egrets, Jacanas and Cormorants. Also for other species as caimans (crocodiles), turtles, monkeys, red arrow frogs, etc. Rio San Juan is accessible flying from Managua to San Carlos, 40 minutes flight, and then a boat ride to the Hotels at the area. There is also immediate access from Costa Rica via Los Chiles, (40 minutes ride) to San Carlos through the Frío River. This enables any combination of tours starting in Costa Rica, continuing to Nicaragua or vice versa. San Carlos is an international entry point for Nicaragua, if you enter or exit Nicaragua through this town; normal immigration, customs procedures and costs will apply.
SOLENTINAME
This is a beautiful archipelago of islands located in the southern end of lake Nicaragua and it is also a natural reserve. These islands are the perfect refuge for monkeys and birds, since they seem to be isolated and safe. These islands are very famous for the primitive art or naïve paintings that are made. They are also famous for making wood carvings that are very colorful and light, so this makes it very easy to carry them around if you purchase any.

MATAGALPA, SELVA NEGRA & ESTELI
General Information
Cloud forest located 87 miles (145 km) from Managua, near the city of Matagalpa (in Nahuatl: confusing town), at more than 4, 000 feet (1, 455 mts) above sea level. Originally a coffee farm called Hammonia by its German settlers, the farm evolved into a protected forest. Many birds live in these woods, including the Quetzal and the more modest Trogons Elegance. A beautiful artificial lagoon gives that special peaceful touch. Trails within the forest allow visitors to observe birds, orchids and other species that live in the forest.
Highlights:
• "Eco-Trails": walking trails with different difficulty levels for the visitor's selection. In the forest you will find many orchids, butterflies and birds. The temperature is much cooler.
• "Coffee tour": a visit to the old mill, and the ingenious systems used in the farm to grow the world famous Ecological Coffee, using no pesticides, only organic products.

ESTELI
General Information
89 miles (148km) north of Managua, there is a valley and town named Estelí. For more than a century this town has been a center of commerce for the surrounding towns. The climate is cool; the view of the surrounding mountains is beautiful. The elevation is around 800 Mts (2,677ft) above sea level. The best combination is with Selva Negra's cloud forest in Matagalpa.
Highlights:
• "Cigar manufacturing": Cigar smoking is now being discovered by thousands of fashionable enthusiasts around the world. But far from the glitter and glamour of Cigar smoking in New York and Los Angeles, the small and peaceful towns of the Estelí valley still manufacture cigars by hand, saving a precious tradition that goes far back into the pre-Hispanic times. Famous brands as, Padrón, La Finca, Plascencia, Carnival, Nica, Mayorgas and others are made in Estelí.

SAN JUAN DEL SUR
General Information
San Juan del Sur is located 88 miles (140 km) from Managua. Only 30 minutes from Peñas Blancas, Costa Rican border. It has a little bit more than 20,000 habitants. The main activity is fishing, which is plentiful and of great benefit for the population. San Juan del Sur is a bay that has the shape of a horseshoe. Because of the color of its waters, this beach will remind you of the Caribbean. San Juan del Sur was declared tourist city of Nicaragua very recently due to the cruise ships that have been arriving since 1998, full of visitors eager to get a closer look at the country's natural beauty and history. The visitor will find several bars and restaurants next to the ocean and also very comfortable hotels and lodges. Very close to San Juan del Sur are the beaches of "El coco", "Chococente", "El Astillero" and "La Flor", which are wildlife refuges and turtle sanctuary of endangered species. From here you can reach the other interesting attractions that Nicaragua offers, Granada, the colonial jewel is only 1 hour away, San Jorge pier is only 45 minutes away, the road is in excellent condition, you can travel safely from San Juan del Sur to the rest of Nicaragua.

CORN ISLAND
General Information
Corn island is a beautiful island on the Caribbean sea located 90 kilometres (53miles) away from main land. You can only get here on an airplane from Managua. It takes one hour and a half to get to the island. Corn Island is an island of 11 square kilometers. People in this place are devoted to shrimp and lobster fishing. Here, it is very possible to have lobster at very affordable prices.
The white sandy beach is beautiful and the waters are crystal clear. The coral reefs are very pretty and snorkeling is really worth doing here. Corn Island is basically unspoiled, with beautiful beaches. It is the place which is not crowded, the place where there is no disturbing noise. The place where everybody wants to go. There are no great facilities, but the hotels are very clean and the food is very good. It is a very authentic and personalized environment.
Little corn island is a beautiful island of 2 square kilometers, with beautiful crystal waters and secluded unspoiled beaches. This is the perfect spot for the tourist who is avoiding the traditional crowded beaches and it is looking for a quiet atmosphere to relax.

General Information
This 4km enchanting beach invites the tourist to swim in its warm and peaceful waters, or simply rest on the beach, to relax and admire the colorful and breathtaking sunsets. The Barcelo Montelimar property located in this Montelimar beach, now turned into a fine all inclusive resort, was owned by the Somoza family, one of the most long lasting dictatorships of Latin America. Highlights:
• "Masachapa": Right beside the Montelimar Beach Hotel you will find Masachapa, a small fisherman village where you can mingle with the locals and experience their daily activities.
